Jack Jones,
a marketer
who can also
build the thing.
I started Red Salt Media in 2024 after a few years in-house at small agencies and one rather hectic stint as the only marketer at a software start-up. I’d had enough of meetings and not enough hands-on work. So I went out on my own.
The work split has settled at roughly two thirds web design and one third ‘everything else’: ads, SEO, photography, social, the occasional strategy retainer. Most clients hire me for a site and stay on for the marketing afterwards, which I take as the better kind of compliment.
I work from a small studio in Liverpool but the projects come from all over, from Edinburgh to Africa, and from games developers to research orgs. Remote-first, with shoots and meetings in person where they help.
If you’ve made it this far: the easiest way to find out whether we’d work well together is a 20-minute call. No pitch, no slides, just a conversation about what you’re trying to do.
A small set of
principles, kept simple.
None of these are revolutionary. Holding to them is the difficult part.
-
P/01
Quote fixed, in writing.
You should never be surprised by an invoice. Scope changes get re-quoted before any work happens.
-
P/02
Ship something every week.
Even on the longest project there should be something tangible to look at by Friday. Momentum beats perfection.
-
P/03
Plain English.
No buzzwords, no acronyms without an explanation. If I’m using jargon, I’ve usually stopped thinking.
-
P/04
Build it so you can run it.
Sites and campaigns get handed over properly. You shouldn’t need me to update a phone number.
-
P/05
Numbers, not opinions.
Once something’s live, decisions move to evidence. Monthly reports in plain language, not screenshots of dashboards.
-
P/06
Say no when it’s the right answer.
If I’m the wrong person, I’ll say so and try to recommend someone better.
A few honest
answers.
Anything not covered here? Email me, I’ll reply within a working day.
Q/01 Do you work with clients outside Liverpool?
Yes, most clients are remote. I’ll travel within the UK for shoots, kick-offs and the occasional in-person workshop.
Q/02 Will you work with my existing team?
Often, yes. I work alongside in-house marketers, copywriters and developers regularly. Happy to slot in or lead, whichever helps.
Q/03 What platforms do you build on?
Whatever fits the brief. Most sites end up on WordPress, sometimes Webflow, sometimes raw code for the trickier ones, occasionally Shopify for retail. I’ll suggest, not impose.
Q/04 Can you take over an existing site or ad account?
Yes. I’ll start with a paid audit so we both know what we’re working with before any retainer.
Q/05 Do you do logos / full brand identity?
Ground-up brand identity yes, but for anything illustration-heavy I’ll usually pair with one of two illustrators I know well. Logos, wordmarks, light visual systems and guidelines I’ll do solo.
